Micro trends have made interior (restaurant) design somewhat of a difficult task because of the overwhelming number of options available in the market. However, we have pinpointed some of the top restaurant design trends of 2023 to make your restaurant functional yet stylish.
Nature-inspired design (a.k.a. lots of plants)
With a growing focus on sustainability, many restaurants are turning to nature-inspired design elements, usually known as “greenery”. This could include natural materials like wood and stone, earthy color palettes, vertical gardens for decorating walls, plants and flowers in hanging pots, etc. These designs can be done using artificial, natural or preserved types of plants.
An extension of this trend, as stated above, is sustainability, thus meaning most restaurants have been incorporating eco-friendly design elements like energy-efficient lighting, recycled materials, and sustainable furniture.
Multifunctional spaces
Restaurants are not just places to eat. In the past few years, they’ve become social hubs, workspaces, and event venues. To accommodate these different uses, many restaurants are designing multifunctional spaces that can be easily adapted to these very different needs. Creating different areas allows interior decorators to make the most of spaces by playing with the furniture, greenery and lighting, among other things.
Interactive Technology
Technology has increasingly become an essential part of the restaurant experience, with many restaurants using interactive displays, augmented reality, and other cutting-edge technologies to enhance the dining experience.
Fusion Decor
Rather than sticking to a single design style, many restaurants are incorporating elements from different cultures and design movements to create a unique fusion style. Industrial, boho, vintage, nordic and navy styles have been the most used during the past few years. However, it’s always recommended to use your own decorative preferences since they give a personal and intimate feel to your restaurant.
Open Kitchens
Many customers find it interesting to see the food they’re eating being prepared, so open kitchens are becoming more popular in restaurant design. This allows your guests to see the chefs at work, creating a more interactive and engaging dining experience.
Maximalism and Minimalism
This last trend depends mostly on your personal preferences. If you are into sleek, functional, cutting-edge looking restaurants, you should go for a more minimalist restaurant design. If you have a big personality and want your restaurant to reflect that, maximalism is a great option. This trend has skyrocketed during 2022 and will still be in trend for 2023.
